Wedding photography at Finca Casas del Sevillano
What could be more capricious than love? That feeling you cannot control: when you look for it you cannot find it, and when you try to run from it, it appears as if by magic in the middle of your path. It can even make you forget where you meant to go, following it blindly on a hunch or simply because its magic cannot be explained. It does not matter how much you try to reason with it, measure it or quantify it; ultimately, it is UNPREDICTABLE… just like the weather! Do not fight it or worry about it. It does not matter what the forecast says, or that, like 90% of couples who say “I do”, you chose a date hoping for a bright sunny day. Just as you did not decide to fall in love with one another, it simply happened. The weather has a mind of its own, but whatever the weather, let love shine!
Below you can see the photographs from my first wedding editorial. Yes, my first one. And although people say that first times never live up to expectations, they only say that because they did not choose well. Have you ever felt that you could not be in better company? That feeling of calm and confidence? Not long ago I felt it again—not with one special person, but with an incredible team.
Every incredible team is made up of incredible individuals. The first people I would like to introduce are David and Vero, the protagonists of this beautiful love story, united by a very good and very great love.
Although I have not experienced it myself, I know how difficult it is to organise a wedding, especially when you have a very clear idea in your head and want to bring it to life exactly as you imagine it. Building castles in the air is not usually advisable; if you want your wedding to be as you dream it, without losing your mind in the process, you need solid foundations. Not concrete foundations, but careful organisation and planning. Here that work was done by Sara, wedding planner at Wed&Bazaar. Like a true wedding architect, and despite every weather setback, she laid the foundations that allowed us to build this love story at Finca Casas del Sevillano.
Raquel has been with me since my first steps as a photographer—not since I owned a camera, but since I began to understand it and do more than simply turn it on and click. Over the last six years we have shared countless sessions, projects and events. Many times we met through her modelling agency, where she is best known as “La loca de las modelos”; on other occasions, as in this love story, she was behind the hairdryers, brushes and make-up brushes. A little over a year ago she opened her own hair salon, Salón Manero. One of the things I love about her and her hairdressers is that I identify with the way they work. Look at Vero and her smile: are they doing her make-up, or is she chatting with a lifelong friend? On a day as important as a wedding, with so much outside your control, you should trust people who make you feel good, as if you had known them forever. Raquel is not only a great professional; she is an expert at making people feel wonderful.
At weddings I always work alone. I believe that is when my senses are most alert and I give my very best. But this was not a wedding… it was wedding inspiration! Eliška and Jose were the extensions of my arms and my reinforcements on that day, when rain and cold were working against us.
Over the years I have seen countless wedding dresses and, although you might think you have seen everything, I am still surprised each time I enter a bride’s room. I will always remember my eyes and mouth opening when I saw the work of art Clara Brea had created for Vero. Simply incredible! And the headpiece and earrings made by Miss Pupitas? The robe and pyjamas from Yedra Colección? David’s suit from Ara Hombre? All the stationery and hangers from Marsuca? Wonderful, every one of them!
A wedding is the celebration of two people joining their lives. Wedding rings symbolise that union. David and Vero’s rings came from Joyería Terrones, run by Luis, another person I met during my first steps as a photographer. Without needing rings, I will always be grateful that he calmed me, advised me and encouraged me when I doubted my own path.
Like every good love story, despite the adversity we had a wonderful ending. We had our happy ending — and thanks to Confitería Santa Lucía, there was no shortage of sweet treats!
Our idea was to tell a beautiful love story through an editorial. Although I think we achieved that, I no longer see it simply as a wedding editorial, or even as a blog post. To me it is the chronicle of a first time that, despite the adversity, had a happy ending thanks to the enthusiasm and talent of a unique team. Thank you, team! And if you are reading this and getting married soon, do not worry if it rains, snows or hails on your wedding day. Happiness is not a state; it is a decision. So do what David and Vero did: keep smiling, and when the weather is bad… choose good love (and good humour too, if you can!).
